Ann Arbor District Library (http://www.aadl.org/) in the US lets users tag catalogue records and contribute reviews. Plus they have this fun little thing where you can add scribbled marginalia to an old fashioned catalogue card. They also have a bunch of blogs users can comment on.
In Aus Brisbane City Libraries (http://elibcat.library.brisbane.qld.gov.au/) and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (http://www.yprl.vic.gov.au/) use Tag Browser to incorporate LibraryThing tags into their catalogue (although library users can't directly add their own tags). Sutherland Shire Libraries (http://library.sutherland.nsw.gov.au/) use delicious in their online subject guides. |

I'm not a fan of having the timer visible to the user; it makes me feel a bit pressured! Perhaps it would be more user-friendly to have a 1 minute warning, rather than a ticking timer?

I think this is a great idea however I found the suggestions given in Tarrant catalogue limited. My first search was 'qwick' and it gave me 'quit' when I was expecting 'quick, and the next search itried was 'queit' and it gave me 'quit' when I was expecting 'quiet'. The words I expected it to suggest follow basic grammar principles. If ours could be widened to suggest 2 alternatives this could be helpful. I was impressed though when I typed in 'australi' the search results page for 'australia' came up without asking 'did you mean...
Session timeouts are great for the clients but frustrating for the staff. Our Location maps are proving popular (if a little confusing) with the clients. Thank you for the opportunity to comment and please enter my name in the draw - Margery. |
