I'm new to this and I must admit I find this website a bit confusing. Took me a while to realise I had to scroll right down to the bottom of the page to post a thread. I guess I'll get the hang of it in time. The concept of a shared site is good and saves the email overload problem. Keeping up with all the new technology is challenging though..will we ever have time to get out into the fresh air and sunshine again?

Couldn't agree more -very succinctly put. I also found this site confusing, and also had to be directed to the end of the page to realise what I had to do and where I had to do it.

I am excited about learning the new technologies but my biggest problem is finding time away from my "to do" list to work on learning about them and improving my skills. How do others fit time for technology into their working day?

Remember it's not something you're doing for you per se. It's something you're learning so that you can enhance your service to clients - thus it's a must do.

the more I learn the more I realize this opportunity would not be available to me without these new technologies being made available online. I am amazed at what is out there, both information and things like wikis which enable communication between like-minded folk. I am on a steep learning curve but it is fun.

Using wiki could potentially be a great tool for me at work. Not just in my job as relief at the library, but also in my other job as a tourism officer, the road is endless. I think it is fantastic that slq is giving everyone the opportunity to learn this new technology. I know that with out this little push from them, it is something I would still be obvious too. – Too Old To Learn – Not Likely

The potential to use wiki as a communications tool is incredible. Just gaining the confidence to become involved in this project has been enough for me to get the brain cells motivated! I live in a relatively isolated area and the use a wiki is unlimited in setting up online communities to share knowledge etc. Of course, spending time online is always a challenge but surely we can save time be accessing specialised information through this resource?

I don't think it's really possible for anyone to keep up with emerging media, unless you have the excessive amount of money to purchase these items. Don't get me wrong, i like technology, but everytime you buy something, a newer version comes out.

Keeping abreast of today's emerging technologies and applications is a difficult task. It requires time, devotion and some specialist knowledge to learn each application. The condensed sessions and overview on the slqlibrary2. wiki are a reminder of the content and potential value that Web2.0 technologies bring to our recreational lives and in the workplace.

The editing facility of wikis looks very straight forward to me but does it keep the history of previous records? It sounds like an efficient way for sharing and storing information. Accessing a collaborative document anytime anywhere. Great stuff!

Most wikis keep a record of changes made to wiki pages filed under the "history" link; usually every version of the page is stored. This means that authors can revert to an older version of the page, should it be necessary because a mistake has been made or the page has been vandalized.

I love Flickr. I can upload the latest 'cute kid' photos and send to family. It saves tthe grandparents who live in the bush and use dial up those long download waits as 20 photos enter the inbox.

I recently used e-bay as an experiment to see if I really could sell stuff. Wow I sold all three items and made a profit. It is a funny sort of online community. More friendly than a garage sale and less carbon emmissions from cars.

I'm also put my books in LibraryThing. It save my time + energy :-) to argue with my kids that I did buy 'that' book which they claimed they couldn't found.

I set up a semi open blog to share cataloguing knowledge and skill with staff working in RDU.
You're welcome to be part of the CATS' circle!
Besides using Flickr, I just learned how to post images to my blog.

I found the navigation a bit confusing at first (but that was probably me!). I look forward to more content being added and the opportunity for public libraries around QLD to access and contribute to this wiki (and also take part in the activities to win prizes!)
Cheers
